The check list

All 107 checks,
in full.

Not a summary of what we might look at — this is the actual list the scanner runs on every site, in the same plain words it uses in your report. If a check is not on this page, we do not do it.

01Search

48 checks

The things that quietly keep pages out of Google. The biggest group, because it is where most sites lose the most — and almost none of it is visible by looking at your own homepage.

  • No page is accidentally hidden from search
  • Every page has a title
  • Page titles are unique
  • Titles are a sensible length
  • Every page has a search description
  • Images have alt text across the whole site
  • Links to other sites still work
  • Language tags are valid and reciprocal
  • Link text describes where it goes
  • Structured data has everything Google needs
  • The picture shown when your links are shared actually loads
  • Your site has an icon for the browser tab

02Security

16 checks

Whether your site is set up the way a secure site should be. Not a penetration test — these are the things a visitor's browser can see, which is also what somebody hostile looks at first.

  • Secure connection is enforced
  • Browsers are told to stay on HTTPS
  • A content security policy is in place
  • Your pages cannot be framed by another site
  • Server software version is not advertised
  • File types cannot be second-guessed
  • Visitor addresses are not leaked to other sites
  • Camera, microphone and location access are restricted
  • Cookies are only sent over an encrypted connection
  • Login cookies are hidden from scripts on the page

03Speed

19 checks

We load your site twice in a real browser — once as a phone on a throttled connection, once as a desktop — and you see both renders. The speed verdict comes from the phone, because that is what most of your visitors are on and desktop numbers would flatter the site. Where Google has figures from your actual Chrome visitors, we show those too, and say so when the two disagree.

  • Main content appears quickly on a phone
  • Page stays still while loading
  • Page stays responsive while loading
  • Server responds promptly
  • Nothing needless blocks first paint
  • Main image is sized for the screen
  • Images reserve their space before loading
  • Page is light enough for mobile data
  • Other companies' code is a small share of your page
  • Nothing from another company holds up your first paint
  • Your site reacts quickly when real visitors tap it
  • Our measurements match what your visitors actually get
  • No errors on the rest of your pages either

04Accessibility

10 checks

Every page tested against the WCAG standard with axe. Automated testing catches roughly a third of accessibility problems, so a clean pass here is not the same as being compliant — the report says as much.

  • Text is readable against its background
  • Images have descriptions for screen readers
  • Form fields are labelled
  • Buttons have readable labels
  • Links have readable text
  • Headings run in order
  • Page declares its language
  • Page has a title for screen readers

05Privacy

4 checks

What your site puts on a visitor's device before they have agreed to anything. We load the page and touch nothing — no banner answered, no button pressed — so everything we list was stored without being asked for, which is exactly the set UK cookie law is about.

  • Nothing is stored on a visitor's device before they agree to it
  • Every company your site shares visitors with is one you know about
  • Cookies the site sets are explained somewhere on it
  • Tracking cookies do not outstay the consent behind them

06Forms and email

8 checks

The two things a visitor relies on you getting right and never sees you get wrong: whether somebody can send email pretending to be you, and whether the forms on your site behave the way their phone expects them to.

  • Email cannot be forged from your domain (SPF)
  • You are told when someone forges your email (DMARC)
  • Forms submit over a secure connection
  • Browsers are allowed to fill in your forms
  • Phone and email fields bring up the right keyboard
  • Every form field has a label
  • Fields tell the browser what they are for

07AI crawlers

2 checks

New, and worth deciding deliberately rather than by accident: whether AI tools may read your site, and whether you point them at your best pages.

  • You have decided what AI crawlers may do
  • You guide AI tools to your best content

The lists above show the checks worth naming. A handful of narrower ones are left out for readability — every check that finds something appears in your report whether or not it is listed here.

Where the line sits

See every problem free.
Pay only for the fixes.

All 107 checks run on the free scan, and you see everything they find. What the full report adds is what to do about it.

The free scan

£0
  • Every problem we find, named in plain English
  • The evidence behind each one, on your own pages
  • How urgent each one is, and what it costs you
  • Your site rendered on a phone and a desktop
  • A before-and-after comparison when you scan again

The full report

coming soon
  • Step-by-step fixes, written for the software your site runs on
  • Every affected page, not just the first few examples
  • A job list you can hand straight to a developer
  • Priority order by impact, effort and risk
  • The option to hire us to do the work instead

After you fix something

Scan again and
watch it clear.

Come back once you have changed something and run it again. We show you what is now fixed, what is still outstanding, and what is new — so you can see the work paying off.

And where part of the change is us — because we improved a check between your two scans — the report separates that out, so the graph does not take credit for your work.

Since your last scan

You fixed 2 things

  • Main content appears quickly on a phone
  • Buttons have readable labels

We added 3 new checks since your last scan

These were probably already there — we simply were not looking for them before. Nothing has got worse on your site.
